Our Benefits

Learning and Development

Induction

It’s important in any role, that we help and support you to get off to the best possible start, so that’s exactly what we will do.

Whether you join us in one of our stores, within our support centre, or in one of our distribution centres, your introduction to Topps Group starts with a role-specific 13-week induction programme, this includes easy to access online training that supports your on-the-job training.

Throughout your induction, and your career for that matter, you will be well supported with regular catch-ups with your manager, not to mention an induction champion to see how you are getting on.

Learning & Development

We’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating; you don’t need to know about tiles or DIY to join us at Topps Group. We’ll give you all the specific training you need to become a knowledgeable specialist in your chosen role within Topps Group.

Our learning experience platform, Thrive, will equip you with the know-how you need to succeed in your role and keep you up to date with new developments and processes. Whatever role you are doing within the Topps Group, you can make full use of all our learning resources, including in-house training courses, how-to videos and reference documentation. All training can be accessed via a mobile, tablet or desktop anytime you need, putting you in control of your own development so you can learn where, when and how it suits you.

But our learning doesn’t just mean online training and courses; coaching is important too, using your experiences, whilst doing your job, to tie in with the knowledge you have learnt then allowing you to put your new skills into practice. Hints and tips passed on by managers and colleagues will really help you get the most from your role and excel.

Career Development

We don’t just offer rewarding jobs and we are not just big on family feel, doing the right thing, and just giving you comprehensive training and ongoing support. There’s more, in fact when it comes to your career development there is as much as you want.

We’re big on building careers through our career pathways – if that’s something you are keen to do.
Our first instinct is to promote from within and we’ll give you all the opportunities for progression that you want and, naturally, all the support you need to make it happen. Whatever direction YOU want your career to take, we will help you get there through an individual career plan, with clear and achievable goals. Over 60% of our management vacancies are filled internally – that’s a stat we are really proud of!

For Topps, development is all about upskilling existing colleagues and nurturing new recruits to build an environment that retains colleagues and provides a strong pipeline of talent and reward.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships offer our colleagues a valuable chance to gain new skills, earn a salary, and grow their careers—all while working. Funded through our Apprenticeship Levy, we make these opportunities available to all Topps Group employees, helping them build expertise and earn recognised qualifications.

In November 2024, we partnered with South and City College Birmingham (SCCB) and Leeds College of Building (LCoB) to support future tilers through the Level 2 Wall & Floor Tiling Apprenticeship. This 2-year course, delivered via weeklong block release, allows apprentices to apply their learning in the workplace. With travel and accommodation support, students are joining from across the UK—from Plymouth to Newcastle.

We contribute Apprenticeship Levy funding for learners over 21, while those under 21 are fully funded. We also engage trade customers on the benefits of hiring apprentices and provide tiles and equipment to support training. Industry partners like BAL, Rubi, Wedi, Schluter, and WarmUp generously offer materials and expertise to enrich the learning experience.

Thanks to this collaboration, course applications continue to grow. We’ve recently expanded our reach to Wales through a new City & Guilds qualification at Cardiff and Vale College.
